Volunteer

Bring your boots. We'll bring the trees.

No experience necessary. Just a willingness to spend a morning planting pawpaws alongside neighbors, students, and the people who will one day eat the fruit.

Coming up

June 13 Pawpaw Planting Volunteer Work Day

We're planting pawpaw seeds and seedlings at Michael Haines' property in Kingston. We'll talk techniques, do some hands-on planting, and send everyone home with free seeds.

Saturday, June 13 · 10:00 a.m. · Michael Haines' property · 32932 Glidden Rd, Kingston, Illinois. Bring long pants, gloves, sun protection, and water. Use the pull-off just north of 32932 Glidden Rd, then walk east to the far end of the adjoining alfalfa field.

The rest of the season: grove maintenance days in summer for watering, mulching, and deer-cage checks; and the Pawpaw Festival in Paw Paw, Illinois in September, where we run the education tent with NIU.

There is a place for every kind of support.

01 — Volunteer on a planting day

Show up to a tree-planting day or grove-maintenance day. We bring the trees, the tools, and the know-how. You bring boots and willingness.

02 — Plant pawpaws yourself

Take home stratified seeds or a seedling. Plant a grove in your yard, your school, your church, or a neighborhood park. We'll send you home with what you need to start.

03 — Educate your neighbors

Tell your neighbors what a pawpaw is — most people in Northern Illinois have never seen one. Bring a friend to a planting day, or to the Pawpaw Festival, where they can finally taste one for themselves.

04 — Donate

Fund nursery stock, classroom materials, and the work that gets trees in the ground. Every dollar goes directly into the next planting season.
